IF WE develop effective non-invasive brain stimulation at home, can we solve major brain health challenges?”
Brightmind AI is a leader in personalized neurotechnology, developing an innovative approach to non-invasive brain stimulation at home for the prevention of migraines and other brain disorders. By combining compacted repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), closed-loop EEG monitoring, and artificial intelligence, Brightmind AI aims to transform the management of brain health.
WHY THIS PROJECT?
Brightmind.AI was created because millions of people worldwide suffer from brain-related issues that can now be treated at home thanks to recent advances in neurotechnology. Their first use case, migraines, has seen limited success with current solutions, with around 25% of the 80 million migraine sufferers in the US and Europe unsatisfied with existing treatments. Research indicates that Brightmind.AI's stimulation protocol reduces migraine attacks by more than 50% in up to 90% of patients, a drastic improvement over existing solutions. The goal is to offer a new, effective approach for at-home migraine prevention.
THE MISSION
Brightmind.AI’s mission is to leverage cutting-edge research to develop significantly better solutions for major brain health challenges. Their vision is for their AI-powered, personalized brain stimulation solutions to be available in homes worldwide, addressing global brain health challenges such as effective solutions to prevent migraine attacks and cognitive decline in dementia.
A DISRUPTIVE INNOVATION
Brightmind.AI’s disruptive idea lies in providing non-invasive, personalized brain stimulation at home. They are the first to miniaturize bulky hospital equipment for repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to allow targeted brain stimulation directly from patients’ homes. Their product combines three key elements: compacted rTMS stimulation, EEG sensors to record brain activity and adjust the stimulation in real-time (closed-loop), and AI top predict symptoms for more tailored therapy by learning from brain data collected over time. This approach aims to shows superior efficacy to electrical brain stimulation, and pharmaceuticals, whilst making the therapy feasible with at-home use by eliminating frequent and costly hospital visits..
POSITIVE IMPACT ON SOCIETY
Brightmind.AI seeks to have a significant positive societal impact by offering a more effective, convenient, and safe solution for migraine prevention, potentially benefiting millions of people. By making hospital-grade technology accessible at home, they improve access to effective therapies. Over time, through their platform, they aim to build a sophisticated brain data database, enabling predictive, analytical, and therapeutic services for various neurological conditions, potentially including depression. Their work aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 3, which promotes good health and well-being.
LEVERAGING THE 3DEXPERIENCE PLATFORM
Brightmind.AI already uses the 3DEXPERIENCE platform for product engineering. Specifically, they use SolidWorks for designing the headset and positioning mechanisms, and Simulia (CST) for simulations. They are excited about the prospect of using Medidata for their upcoming clinical trials. They also plan to use Enovia and Delmia as they scale production while continuing to use SolidWorks and Simulia. Simulia simulations have already saved them several years of development and prototyping.
COLLABORATIVE AND COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE
Brightmind.AI has been sourced at TUM Venture Labs, one of our main incubator partners in Germany. Their advisor, Stan Woods, highlighted the importance of simulations with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. Additionally, they have an international and experienced team, leading to a strong internal collaboration. The long-term aggregation of brain data via their headset will enable continuous improvement in stimulation through data-driven learning, essentially a form of collective intelligence derived from user data.
